November 2023

Women In Motion is celebrating photography month in Paris by supporting three major events.
Kering has been a partner of Paris Photo's Elles X Paris Photo program since 2020, and this year it is involved in the publication of the book ELLES, which takes a look back at the five years for which this initiative has run through the voices of more than 130 women photographers.
The Group is also supporting Chilean photographer Paz Errázuriz with her first retrospective in France, at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine, and her first publication in French, published by Atelier EXB.
A first retrospective of photography pioneer Julia Margaret Cameron is also being held at Jeu de Paume, in partnership with Women In Motion.
Also, from September 2023 to March 2024, Kering will be paying homage to the five recipients of the Women In Motion photography award at the Rencontres d’Arles, through an unprecedented poster campaign, on rue du Louvre, right in the center of Paris.

On the fifth anniversary of its partnership with Les Rencontres d’Arles, Kering is pleased to continue and increase its support for women photographers through numerous projects. The latter include the “On the ruins of photography” exhibition dedicated to Rosângela Rennó, a new special issue of the Women In Motion publication collection by Fisheye and the Agnès Varda exhibition “La Pointe courte, from photographs to film”.

Kering and Les Rencontres d’Arles present the fifth Women In Motion Award for Photography to Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó. The Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro - Arles 2023 is awarded to the young Iranian photographer, Hannah Darabi. And for the first time, a special jury mention is given to Indian photographer Riti Sengupta.

The 2023 Women In Motion Award is presented to internationally acclaimed Malaysian-born actress and producer Michelle Yeoh at the 76^th Festival de Cannes, while the Emerging Talent Award goes to Swiss director Carmen Jaquier.

The ninth edition of the Women In Motion Talks in Cannes welcomes many leading figures to share their views on women’s place and recognition in arts and culture: Jeremy O. Harris, Katie Holmes, Jeanne Herry, Cate Blanchett, Coco Francini, Lily Gladstone, Michelle Yeoh, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Eva Longoria, and Stacy L. Smith.

Following Susan Meiselas (2019), Sabine Weiss (2020) and Liz Johnson Artur (2021), the Women In Motion Award for Photography is awarded to Babette Mangolte, filmmaker, photographer, artist, and author of critical essays on photography.

Women In Motion renews its partnership with not-to-be-missed summer photography event, the Rencontres d'Arles. Rich in projects and events, the 2022 edition is the first where more than 50% of the works on display are by women. Through its partnership, the program supports several exhibitions: “Capturing Movement in Space,” by Babette Mangolte, “Cartographies Du Corps,” by Susan Meiselas and Marta Gentilucci, and “Bettina. A Poem of Perpetual Renewal,” by Bettina Grossman. Women In Motion also supports the publication of the book “A World History of Women Photographers” as well as “Anima”, a performance/installation by Noémie Goudal and Maëlle Poesy. Lastly, the Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro Arles, supported by Women In Motion since its creation in 2016, is presented to the young Egyptian photographer, Amina Kadous.

In the heights of Cannes as part of the official Women In Motion dinner held in conjunction with the Festival, the eighth Women In Motion Award is presented to American actress and producer, Viola Davis. The Young Talent Award is given to Swedish director Ninja Thyberg.

As part of the Festival de Cannes’ 75th edition, Women In Motion hosts a new series of Talks with Viola Davis, Riley Keough, Gina Gammel, Clara Luciani, Mélanie Laurent, Déborah Lukumuena and Emily Yang. The Women In Motion podcast also has two new episodes, featuring actress, film director and artist, Charlotte Lebon, and actress and filmmaker, Luàna Bajrami.

At the Art Basel contemporary art fair, Kering, Phaidon and Christie’s celebrate the publication of “WOMAN MADE: Great Women Designers.” The book aims to spotlight creative women of the past, present, and future, while inspiring the next generation of women designers.

In partnership with Centre Pompidou x West Bund Museum Project, Women In Motion celebrates contemporary dance by holding the Women In Motion at West Bund festival at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai.

Women In Motion partners with the Kyotographie Festival. This must-attend photography event focuses on revealing the current richness, diversity, and originality of emerging photography while showcasing new approaches that reflect a new type of art at the crossroads of multiple genres and disciplines.

Women In Motion supports the retrospective dedicated to American photographer, Vivian Maier, whose work was discovered posthumously at the turn of the twenty-first century. The exhibition moves across the globe, from Paris’s Musée du Luxembourg (September 2021-January 2022) and Turin’s Royal Museums (February-June 2022) to Seoul and its Ground Seesaw Seongsu gallery (August-November 2022).

The Women In Motion Award, kept secret until the last moment, is presented to the campaigning actress, producer and director, Salma Hayek. The Young Talent Award is given to Australian director, Shannon Murphy. Finally, the Young Talent Award for 2020 is officially presented to Maura Delpero.

During the 74th edition of the Festival de Cannes, the Women In Motion Talks welcomed Yamina Benguigui, Lou Doillon, Jodie Turner-Smith, Tilda Swinton and Regina King. All of them share their experiences and views of women’s representation in the film industry. New Women In Motion podcast episodes are also recorded in the studio. They feature producer Caroline Bonmarchand, director of photography Caroline Champetier, conductress Uèle Lamore, chief decorator Katia Wyszkop and screenwriter Léa Mysius.

Kering steps up its commitment to women photographers through its partnership with the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles. The third Women In Motion Award for Photography is presented to Russian-Ghanaian artist, Liz Johnson Artur. The Group also renews its commitment to young talent through the Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro, presented this year to Sudanese photographer, Eythar Gubara.

Through Women In Motion, Kering launches a partnership with the Sœurs Jumelles festival, with its debut edition held in Rochefort in June 2021, featuring the first Talks on music. Since then, Women In Motion supports this event, a celebration of music and images and a gathering place for professionals in related industries.

To mark International Women’s Day, Kering and Pomellato present an exclusive episode for the Women In Motion podcast. Jane Fonda: in conversation with Jameela Jamil.

To support the cinema industry and young creators, Kering and the Festival de Cannes are determined to maintain the Young Talent Award, despite the health crisis forcing many events around the world to be canceled. The 2020 Award is presented to Italian director, Maura Delpero.

The first Women In Motion LAB launched in 2019 in association with the Rencontres d’Arles highlights the contribution made by women to the global history of photography. The project, led by women historians, Luce Lebart and Marie Robert, draws on research carried out by 160 women experts in photography from around the world. It resulted in the publication of a book entitled A world history of photography, published by Textuel.

Kering collaborates for the first time with the Paris Photo art fair for photography and furthers its commitment to women photographers by supporting the Elles X Paris Photo 2020 exhibition initiated in 2018 with the Ministry of Culture. Ever since, the Group has renewed its partnership to advance the recognition of women artists.

Despite the cancellation of the ‘Rencontres d’Arles to the current health restrictions, Kering and the Rencontres d’Arles are determined to go ahead with the second edition of the Women In Motion Award for Photography. The 2020 Women In Motion Award is presented to the outstanding photographer, Sabine Weiss, for her life’s work.

On the occasion of the release of True Mothers in theatres, Women In Motion welcomes movie director Naomi Kawase, and actors Hiromi Nagasaku and Arata Iura to Kering’s new headquarters in Japan for an exclusive Talk.

Supported by Women In Motion and in line with the French Ministry of Culture’s roadmap for Diversity and Equality, the Observatoire des Filles de la Photo presents its first study on diversity in the photography ecosystem.

Women In Motion celebrates the careers of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon during an exclusive screening of Thelma & Louise at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. The event marks the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in the U.S.

Women In Motion supports Anna Boghiguian’s first monograph exhibition in Paris at the Festival d’Automne. In honor of the occasion, the Egyptian artist, who is of Armenian origin, creates a monumental work entitled Le Carré, la ligne et la règle, designed and produced during a residency lasting several months at the Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Through its Women In Motion program, Kering partners with creative arts publisher Phaidon, to launch a new book, GreatWomen Artists. The book tells the stories of over 400 artists spanning 500 years.

In partnership with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), Women In Motion hosts an exclusive Talk with Japanese artists Mika Ninagawa, Sputniko! and Shinobu Terajima. The artists share their views on the representation of women in arts and culture in Japan.

A second season of the Women In Motion podcast is recorded at the 72nd Festival de Cannes. This series focuses on female figures in the film industry whose professions are often largely unknown to the general public. Producers, film critics, casting directors as well as agents, offer their perspectives on what it’s like working in an industry that is still largely male-dominated: how they’ve made a name for themselves, the difficulties of taking on leadership roles, and where they’ve found support.

Kering partners up with the Rencontres d’Arles to create the Women In Motion Award for photography. This first edition was presented to Susan Meiselas. Through this partnership, Kering also created the Women In Motion LAB, a research program focused on women’s contribution to the world history of photography. The Group also renewed its commitment to young talents through the Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro, created in 2016 and presented this year to the Greek photographer Evangelia Kranioti.

Women In Motion partners up with the Shanghai International Film Festival, inviting Zhao Tao to give a Talk. The actress discusses the challenges facing women in the Chinese film industry.

Gong Li, an iconic figure in Chinese cinema and the first Chinese actress to have won over international festivals, receives the 2019 Women In Motion Award. This year's Young Talent Award goes to German director Eva Trobisch.

Kering launches a podcast for the fifth edition of Women In Motion at the Festival de Cannes. The first series looks back at the highlights of previous Talks by five leading, committed figures in the world of cinema: Emilia Clarke, Jodie Foster, Salma Hayek-Pinault, Aïssa Maïga and Agnès Varda. They share their journeys, experiences, and their views on cinema and discuss women's role in front of, and behind the camera.

Kering announces its renewed partnership with the Festival de Cannes for five years. For its fifth anniversary, the Women In Motion Talks welcome Leyna Bloom, Zhou Dongyu, Nadine Labaki, Eva Longoria as well as a roundtable bringing together Stacy L. Women In Motion and La Cinémathèque française jointly organize a Jane Fonda retrospective. The first winner of the Women In Motion Award in 2015, Fonda will talk about her experience as an actress, producer and committed philanthropist during a Talk with Costa-Gavras and Frédéric Bonnaud.

The Talks 2018 season opens with Carey Mulligan and goes on to welcome Emilia Clarke, Salma Hayek Pinault, Chris Lee, Aïssa Maïga, Z Tao and Vivian Qu, who share their experiences and perspectives on women’s representation in the film industry.
